September 2003New Zealand continues to maintain its appeal as a safe and stress free destination for international tourists. S.A.R.S. caused a short term drop in the visitor arrivals in the month of May, however since then we have experienced record visitor numbers - quite possibly a reflection on New Zealand and Australia as being regarded as safe destinations. The Harris Poll #46 (http://www.harrisinteractive.com August 20, 2003) of 2,215 American adults 'Favourite Vacation Countries if cost not an issue' confirms New Zealand's attractiveness as a safe tourism destination. The poll registers New Zealand with the largest increase in preferred destination moving from thirteenth in 2002 to seventh place in 2003. Australia continues to be the number one choice. The New Zealand as a destination trend is reflected in the bookings for the 2003 - 2004 summer season. The Airlines are predicting a 30% increase in capacity into Auckland indicating that they too feel the appeal for New Zealand as a preferred 'down under' destination on the increase. Reesby Buses recognize that safety is the key to destination selection and satisfaction and as a company we continue to maintain Risk Management as our top priority. We are proud of our commitment to safety and our team who all actively commit to ensure that all travel is safe, luxurious and worry free.
The past practice of using Mercedes Benz chassis for large coach replacement and M.A.N, Spartan and Freightliner chassis for midi coach replacement has been maintained. This year in order to meet the market demand for coaches three new coaches have been purchased one is already in operation and we have contracted with Allan Denning of Brisbane to build two coaches which are due to begin in November 2003. The specs for these coaches can be viewed on the fleet description site.
Reesby's are proud to be the first New Zealand operator to put the new 500 Model Mercedes into service on New Zealand roads. Photos of the new coaches will be published on this site in November. This year the company has ventured into a few contracted domestic services this provides an opportunity to offer coaches at a reduced rate. These coaches are standard production with air-conditioning and air suspension but no luggage capacity, ideal for local sites and conference transfers. As part of the ongoing safety strategy all coaches from year 2000 onwards have seat belts fitted throughout. There are only two coaches within the tour fleet that are not fully seat belt equipped, these coaches have seat belts fitted to exposed seats.
